Math

Step It Up has a lot of parts and figuring out how those parts fit together was challenging. I created several models before landing on the final prototype and had to pay close attention to dimensions and tolerances, including custom 3D printed pieces, fitting the PVC frame together, and installing hinges.

My final two prototypes were designed in 1:1 scale, so I spent a lot of time measuring myself and designing around those measurements: the height of my knee, shoulder, and hips. I had to take these measurements as if I were using a crutch and then take them all again as if I were using a knee scooter. One of the toughest parts was figuring out how to convert those measurements in the best way possible so the prototype worked just as good as a crutch as it did unfolded as a knee scooter.
